Movers and Shakers | Abisola Aboh | Full Bloom Beauty

Abisola Aboh is the founder of Full Bloom Beauty, a faith-based natural haircare company specialising in products for afro hair textures. She launched her business just over a year ago.

What drove you to start your business?

I was unable to secure a new IT contract due to the depressed job market during the pandemic.  This gave me time to focus on my true passion in life, haircare. I began to research and make natural haircare remedies initially for myself , then family and friends with great results.

What was your career path prior to starting your business?

I was an IT Business Analyst in investment banking for 15 years

Tell us about the business planning stage.

I spent a lot of time researching the products I wanted to launch with and working with my husband on the marketing strategy. I didn’t contact a business support agency, but spoke to friends and family to learn from their experiences.

How far ahead do you plan and what keeps you on track and motivated?

I prefer to create a structure and schedule that I can stick to for the working week

Can you describe a typical working day?

I begin each day with morning prayers,

I then begin fulfilling new orders,  I post on social media, do the school run, make dinner for the family and create Full Bloom Beauty products when the kids are safely tucked up in bed.

What has been the most amazing day in your entrepreneurial life so far?

The successful launch of Full Bloom Beauty and receiving so many orders.

What has been your scariest moment?

Feeling overwhelmed by a large volume of orders during a recent sale.

How do you work on making your business grow?

Social media marketing mostly. Coming up with creative content that’s speaks to our brand and that people will enjoy.

What is the best thing about being your own boss?

Choosing your working hours so that this fits with family lifestyle. Developing your own business culture and values.

What are the challenges of working for yourself and how do you tackle them.

There never seems to be enough time to do everything that needs doing. I have to create a schedule I can stick to, in order to get things done.

Who do you admire or look to for inspiration as a business owner?

Mrs Jumoke Adenowo, Tobe Nwigwe, Afrocenchix. I love the authenticity in what they do and that’s what I hope to achieve.

What piece of advice has had the most impact on your business? And who was it from?

Just start. Start with what you have and make the most of it.  (from Mrs Jumoke Adenowo)

What are the three books, websites or resources (professional or personal) that you would recommend to other business owners?

The  Bible,

The 4 hour Work Week, by Timothy Ferriss

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T. Kiyosaki

What other passions do you have away from your business? How do you relax?

I’m a romantic at heart and enjoy watching a good rom-com and k-dramas. Going on dinner dates and vacations with my family.
