Designing your first office

When you run a business, you want a workplace which you can be proud of, and which is going to serve your business as well as possible.

For many people, that will mean that they need to actually spend some time designing their own office, and if you are in this position then it is something that you are going to want to make sure you get right. The quality of your office is likely to affect the business as a whole, so it’s important to focus on this.

Here’s how you can design your first office to make sure its right for you.

Hire Professional Help

First of all,  you probably don’t want to try and do this alone. There are many people out there who can help you to design your first office, and you will want to make use of whatever help you can find.

One of the people you will want on board is an architect. Finding interior architects to help you with your project is going to mean that you are much more likely to have a successful result, so it’s something to think about. They will be able to help you design exactly the space you need.

Think About Size

How big is your business right now? How many staff do you employ? How much do you think it will grow? Will you need space for freelancers to work from too?

The office is first and foremost going to have to be big enough to house all of the people, equipment and supplies that you need.

While it can be hard to estimate this perfectly, your business plan can be a guide to help you here.

Finding The Right Location

Another important decision is where you want the office to be located. Ideally, it should be somewhere where all of your employees and visitors can easily get to. Anywhere too far out will be troublesome.

This doesn’t mean that you necessarily always want to be perfectly central, as that can bring its own problems too. You could find that it is much more expensive and that you are competing with other brands in a small space. Consider and balance these issues when you are looking at different locations.

The Perfect Space For Employees

Finally, make sure that you are aware of the kind of facilities that your employees will want to have in the office.

As well as comfortable working spaces and a lot of personal space, you should make sure that you design the office to have comfy break-out areas and a decent kitchen they can use.  The more of this you have, the more successful the office is likely to be and the more you and your employees are going to want to work from there.
