The PRECIOUS AWARDS teams up with UnLtd to reward Social Entrepreneurs

The PRECIOUS Awards, the leading awards programme for women of colour in the UK, is partnering with UnLtd, the Foundation for Social Entrepreneurs, to create a new awards category to recognise and support women who are driving lasting social change.

The PRECIOUS Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award sponsored by UnLtd, is a new initiative that gives the category winner £15,000 to support their new or emerging social venture to grow.

The £15,000 is an UnLtd Grow it Award which is a package of cash and support for up to 12 months. The cash element can be used for living costs, as well as venture costs, to support the social entrepreneur as they grow their venture.

Foluke Akinlose MBE, founder, PRECIOUS, said: “I am so excited to be working with UnLtd to help unlock the potential of women of colour who are tackling social issues via their venture

“This boost of funds could be a game changer for many women of colour in the early stages of growing a social venture. I meet so many women who have a dream of running a business that could create critical societal change, but they are held back from doing so by not being able to access direct funding to them as an individual. This award will go a long way in helping them focus on building a sustainable business with a financial buffer to assist.

“Access to funding remains a huge barrier for women of colour in this sector and it’s powerful to help to bring change to the landscape.”

Denise Ramsey, Director of Awards at UnLtd said: “The Precious Awards are an empowering platform for women of colour. UnLtd is committed to our inclusion mission where we are actively extending our reach to include people of colour, women, those with disabilities and those who identify as LGTBQ+.

“I am pleased to partner with the Precious Awards where I hope we will encourage more women of colour who are leading with their lived experience of a social issue to change the world around us for the better.”

Nominations for the 13th Annual PRECIOUS Awards are now open. Nominations can be made at www.preciousawards.com
